The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations place responsibilities on employers to consider how chemicals are used in the workplace and to protect the health of employees coming into contact with them.
COSHH Essentials is a program developed by the HSE to help companies meet their COSHH responsibilities. It is hosted on the internet, is free to use and allows a user to enter information about a chemical and gain an assesment of suggested control measures. It may not be ideal for larger users of chemicals as it relies on manual data input and therefore does not react to changes in classification or use. The HSE suggest that COSHH requirements will diminish over time as REACH exposure scenarios overlap with some of COSHH responsibilities.
Original Formpak Software has a COSHH area which allows users to record COSHH Assessments and provide dates for next assessment. This can be found in Health & Safety Menu, COSHH Hazard Data Menu. In the future, in new Formpak, the COSHH abilities will be expanded to allow for better automation.
