Setting up Cosmetic Allergens for Declarations

Setting up Cosmetic Allergens for Declarations

Setting up Cosmetic allergens, so they can be shown in an Allergen Declaration

In summary you have to indicate which raw materials are the fundamental allergens using properties. This information is gathered into a list of allergens using the property ‘AGNINGDETAILS’ for the original 26 fragrance allergens and also ‘AGN2023INGDETAILS’ for the additional 57 fragrance allergens.

These properties are found in the property group ‘Cosmetics & Detergents’.

Originally there were 26 fragrance allergens and a Property ‘AGN’ is used to manage this. To apply the Property navigate to ‘Modify a Raw Material’, go into Properties tab, go to the Cosmetic & Detergents property group and add AGN = Yes, then Save. When you calculate properties for a formulation or a complex raw material AGNINGDETAILS will be calculated to show the allergens present based on which components have AGN = Yes.

If you have a simple set up, you can just apply AGN property to the original allergens you use.

IMPORTANT! The AGN property needs to be applied to a single component which is common to all occurrences of it. For example, Citral is naturally occurring and available in its own right. If someone buys Lemon oil and Citral, then there is usually a regulatory component ‘Citral’ which is present in both purchased Lemon oil and purchased Citral and the AGN property is given to the regulatory Citral.

As of 2023 the Cosmetic Regulation includes an additional 57 fragrance allergens. Property ‘AGN2023’ is used to manage this when you apply the Property and calculate properties for a formulation or a complex raw material AGN2023INGDETAILS will be calculated.

IMPORTANT! AGN2023 must only be applied to one Raw Material in your Formpak system. Where there is more than one example/isomer adding a non hazardous accumulator may be necessary. The existing AGN Property should already be set up in a similar way.

If the Raw Material is a single chemical substance, then directly apply the Property AGN2023 = Yes. Navigate to Modify a Raw Material, select the Cosmetic and Detergents Property Group. Add Property AGN2023 and change the Property Value to Yes and Save.

If there are different grades of the same Raw Material an accumulator will need to be added into the composition of the Raw Material. Navigate to Add Composition to Raw Material select Add Composition. If the Raw Material has a Composition a message will appear asking if you want to Update Composition or Add select appropriate option. Insert the AGN2023_STD and add the concentration at 100%. Select Save and Check In. Preserve when exploding = Yes and select OK.

For Natural Complex substances such as essential oils and different grades of the same NCS Raw Material an accumulator will need to be added into the composition of the Raw Material. Navigate to Add Composition to Raw Material select Add Composition. If the Raw Material has a Composition a message will appear asking if you want to Update Composition or Add select appropriate option. Insert the AGN2023_STD and add the concentration at 100%. Select Save and Check In. Preserve when exploding = No and select OK.

Existing Allergens

4 of the existing allergens, Citral, Citronellol, Isoeugenol and Limonene have had Isomers added as 2023 allergens which are required to be labelled the same as the existing version.

For the ‘new’ 2023 Isomers e.g. Neral, Geranial, but not Citral, add Components AGN23_STD and AGNALL_STD at 100 Parts, Preserve When Exploding = Yes (Leaving any existing Accumulators e.g. IFRA in place)

For the existing Isomers e.g. Citral, but not Neral, or Geranial, add Component AGNALL_STD at 100 Parts, Preserve When Exploding = Yes (Leaving any existing Accumulators e.g. IFRA in place)

The Calculated Property AGNALL must be changed to Manual and set to ‘No’ for the AGN Accumulator and Items to which AGNALL_STD has been added. In this way, only one value of Property AGN2023 and AGNALL will be applied per allergen.

You can adapt the new Allergen Declaration to display the existing allergens and the additional 2023 allergens in the declaration.

Navigate to ‘Modify a Property’ input Property AGN2023INGDETAILS and in the Property Based On field input the Property AGNALL.

This is a calculated Property which targets both the existing AGN Property and the new AGN2023 Property. Therefore both sets of allergens will now appear on the document.
